How To Limit Digital Distractions

In today's busy world, it's easy to waste time texting, looking at apps, or scrolling around on your phone or computer. It may cause you to be unproductive, whether you're trying to get things done around the house or at work. The good news is that you can work on managing digital distractions so that you're able to use your time more productively. Here's how to limit digital distractions:

Turn On Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb is a nice feature available on many phones. This will make it easier for you to limit distracting calls and texts. You can turn it only for as long as you need, and you'll be less likely to stop and check your phone every time you hear a ding for a call or text. Try using this feature for a good chunk of your workday, and you may find that you're getting a lot more done.

Get Rid of Unnecessary Apps

If you have apps on your phone that are only timewasters, consider removing them. You can focus on using only essential apps for the time being as you adjust to working without distractions.

Use Website Blockers

Some people may be more distracted on the computer than they are on their phones. If you keep opening distracting sites instead of focusing on your must-do work tasks, now is a good time to utilize website blockers. You can download a program on your phone or download a browser extension that will allow you to block out certain distracting websites for set time periods. This might be an easier way to get used to avoiding Facebook during the workday.

Work in Time Blocks

Doing your work in set time blocks may also help you limit digital distractions. Map out your day and set time limits where you must focus on essential work tasks, and then allow time for breaks. For example, you might work two full hours and then take a 15-minute break to something non-work related. You'll look forward to your break, and you'll get a lot done during your work chunks.

These are some ways to limit digital distractions. As you begin to adjust your habits, it will be a lot easier to get more done in the time that you do have.
